Greetings beloved in Christ. It is February, and for me that means two things. One, it’s Black History Month. It is a wonderful opportunity for each of us to take time to learn more about the contributions that those of African descent have made, not only to our country and to our world, but to this Episcopal Church. I hope that you’ll engage your curiosity and learn more about these contributions in your own community. The second thing is that February means that Lent is coming. This year, the Office of the Bishop has prepared a program called Journey through Lament. It is an invitation for us to engage in the ancient spiritual practice of lament to be in conversation about the suffering and the brokenness in our communities.

Our formation department has worked hard on this program, and you can avail yourself of it in two ways. One, you can have a package that you practice in your congregation. It makes a great tool for youth, for your Lenten suppers, and congregations can gather small groups around the topics at hand, or you can participate with people from all over our beautiful diocese in our online programming. Either way, you are bound to learn tools, and develop understandings that help you reach through the pain and the grief to find the hope and redemption, and the beauty of our call to serve. I wish you happy February, and a blessed Lent.
