Merry Christmas, beloved. Unto us, a child is born. Unto us, a son is given. Authority rests on his shoulders, and he shall be named wonderful counselor, everlasting father, prince of peace. A few weeks ago, my oldest child called me to tell me of his holiday travel plans and he said, “Mom, I’m not going to get to Colorado until January, and I hope you’re not upset.”

And I said, “Oh, honey, Christmas is a season, not a day.”

And he chuckled and said, “I knew you were going to say that one,” but it is true.

Christmas tide is the time from Christmas Day to January 6th, the Feast of the Epiphany. Christmas is a season for us to proclaim over and over again, “We have been given the greatest gift, and that is the gift of God’s own self incarnate in human flesh.”

I pray that you remember that Christmas is in fact a season and that you will carry that joy wherever you go, saying, “Merry Christmas,” even if people look at you funny, because we have received, and we should proclaim that we’ve received the greatest gift of all. Merry Christmas.
