Bishop’s Advisory Council on Ministry (BACOM) Virtual Event
April 14-16, 2021
Welcome to the BACOM Virtual Event! We look forward to meeting with you through the days ahead. On this webpage you will find the schedule for your interviews, our time together and all the Zoom links you will need to join the interviews, meetings, and prayer times. We have also gathered resources to support you in your discernment and reflection. These materials are available to you at any time during these days. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. (I Corinthians 12:4-7)
Getting Ready
Here are some tips to help you prepare for the BACOM event:
- Practice good self-care throughout the event. Eat regular, healthy meals; take time away from screens; and get plenty of sleep.
- Find a comfortable location, free from distractions, to participate in your interviews and the regular prayer times. Consider adding a candle or other items that help center you.
- Use free-time sessions to relax and refresh yourself Finding Balance and Mindful Movement.
- Know that you will have access to BACOM Chaplain Michelle Danson throughout the event. Outside of prayer times, she is available for private consultation via Zoom. To schedule a time with her, please text her at 720.220.9288.
Practicing Healthy Boundaries
Free Time Options
Finding balance and refreshment are essential to sustaining your life and work. What is it that you most love to do? What enlivens and delights you? We encourage you to take this free time to care for yourself – body, mind, and spirit. Consider getting away from your screen and going outdoors for an activity that lifts your spirit. Take time to center yourself with a favorite book. Take a nap. Listen to music, or play an instrument.

Today’s Mindful Movement session encourages you to choose a solitary activity that nourishes your body, mind, and spirit. Consider leaving your computer and taking time for a physical activity you enjoy: walking, yoga, going for a bike ride, or gardening are all options. Get outdoors and enjoy fresh air and the chance to clear your mind.
We have gathered several resources for walking:
Pilgrimage-in-place, or, Walking as Spiritual Companionship: What is supposed to happen on a pilgrimage, and what makes for a successful pilgrimage? Knowing or understanding these things, can a pilgrimage happen on a walk from your home to the grocery store? Or the post office? Or just meandering around your neighborhood? Go for a walk. Go a different direction. Go somewhere you don’t normally go. Go for the sake of going. Pay attention to what you are seeing. Spiritual Directors Matt Whitney and Jeanette Banashak went for a walk around the neighborhood in Chicago and recorded their conversation while walking. Jeanette is a co-founder of the Spiritual Guidance Training Institute, and the author of The Mindful Pilgrimage: A 40-Day Pocket Devotional for Pilgrims of Any Faith or None.
