Annual Convention in 2024

Our 137th Diocesan Convention will occur in Fort Collins in the first half of October 2024. The final dates for the Diocesan Annual Convention will be either October 3-5 or October 10-12. The weekend will be chosen depending on the CSU Football schedule to be announced in March 2024. Our Fort Collins hotel location and the room blocks are confirmed with the dates dependent on the football schedule, which we will confirm in March.

Welcome!

Welcome to the 136th Episcopal Church in Colorado Annual Convention: our opportunity to gather to accomplish the canonically required work of the church as well as find inspiration in our journey with God and each other. We will gather and pray together as we face our current realities and lean into our shared future in leading our diocese.

Called

We are called to gather together, as Christ’s body, to worship God, serve in Christ’s name, and invite one another more deeply into our baptismal ministry. Through our transformation of mind, heart, and action, we go into the world to share Good News of God’s love.

Standing Committee Report to Convention 2022

Resolutions Submitted to Convention

Resolution 1-2023 on Minimal Deacon Compensation

This resolution would require any congregation with a deacon in active service (under the age of 72) to pay their deacon a minimum compensation of $25 per month, in addition to reimbursements outlined by the diocese, and pay the related 18% pension to Church Pension Group (CPG) as required by Canon.  This would allow each deacon so compensated to be an active participant in CPG and entitled to all the related benefits including Life Insurance, CREDO and other conferences, as well as retirement benefits.
Resolution 2-2023 on Church Attendance Data Tracking & Reporting
This resolution provides a mechanism for parishes to track and report individuals worshipping online. As the Church steps into the 21st century and more churches stream church services, this resolution would allow Episcopal churches across the diocese to use a standard matrix to identify how many people are worshipping with us on a regular basis. As a result of this resolution the diocese we will have a better understanding of the actual number of people worshipping in the Episcopal Church in Colorado in both physical and digital spaces.

Convention Land Acknowledgement

“Welcome to The Episcopal Church in Colorado’s 136th Annual Convention. As we prepare for what the Spirit has for us this weekend, we take a moment to acknowledge that the land on which we live and gather is the traditional territory of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute Nations. We recognize the Indigenous people who once lived on this land and support the resilience and strength of their descendants living among us today.

We also acknowledge our complicity in the egregious acts of colonization, boarding schools, and genocide that have caused lasting intergenerational trauma. We commit to learn the truth of the past and present, to reckon with our role in the harms caused, and to stand in solidarity with our Indigenous kin as we seek an equitable future together.”

As part of our Care for Creation, the community of Colorado Episcopal Deacons is planning an outreach project to benefit our siblings of The Navajo Nation.  For several years, volunteers from St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church and Nativity Episcopal Church in Grand Junction have been participating in spay and neuter clinics on a very regular basis.

Working with the Parker Project, a nonprofit established in 2018 to help overcome the incredible overpopulation of dogs and cats, and Soul Dog Rescue, these dedicated volunteers have joined the efforts to provide free or by donation spay and neuter clinics to the rural communities of The Navajo Nation.  The mission statement, “Helping People Help Their Pets” is a way each of us in the Diocese can care for God’s creation and help keep animals happy and healthy in the homes they know and love.

How can you help?  Purchase unopened containers and bags of dog and cat food and bring your donations to the Diocesan Convention.  St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church will have a collection site at the convention center.  The pet food will be stored and then taken to The Navajo Nation when the volunteers visit in early December for its next spay and neuter clinic.

Please help!  For more information or questions, please contact Deacon Jan Pearson janvcp@msn.com)  or Deacon Teri Shecter (terishecter12@gmail.com).
