Greetings, beloved in Christ. I hope that you are well on this beautiful day. And it is a beautiful day that our Lord has made, and I hope that you are rejoicing and are glad in it. One of my personal spiritual disciplines is to meditate on a passage shared by the brothers of the Society of St John the Evangelist. And today’s meditation was particularly poignant. It was by Brother Curtis Almquist, and it says, “The wonder and beauty of life always connects us with its source, its creator. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy the beauty of creation that surrounds us and fills us. But don’t stop there. Always experience beauty as a bridge back to its source. Our experience of beauty on Earth ferries us to God’s presence.”
One of the gifts and privileges of being the Bishop of The Episcopal Church in Colorado is that I get to enjoy the beauty of our diocese. From corner to corner, this state offers such magnificent natural beauty. I get to travel over passes, and see valleys and mountains, and I get to rejoice in God’s brilliant palette of wildflowers. And soon, the trees will be turning, and we will see those beautiful splashes of gold across our mountains as the aspen leaves change. It is a gift to me, to experience this natural beauty, and I thank God for it. It doesn’t grow old. I hope that you will take the opportunity to go outside and experience God’s creative brilliance in a tree, in a flower, in a bug. Experience it, and thank God for it. Blessings.
