Greetings beloved in Christ. I hope that you are well on this day. On this day, I ask for your prayers for Colorado and for its people. I ask for your prayers as we face wildfires raging all over our state. I ask your prayers specifically for communities facing evacuation orders, communities like Battlement Mesa and Leadville. I ask your prayers for those brave firefighters who are risking their lives. Some of them have even lost their lives trying to contain these fires. I ask your prayers for communities, for our churches like Church of the Transfiguration in Vail that are working in their community to prepare space for evacuees and people fleeing the flames.
I ask your prayers for rain. We need it. Even in those communities that aren't facing the imminent threat of fire, the smoke is making our air quality awful, dangerous. We are struggling. And your prayers really do make a difference. Your willingness to help makes a difference.
As a Bishop of this Diocese, I am in touch with Episcopal Relief and Development and will be in a conversation with them about how we help mitigate the pain and the challenge that these fires are producing. But again, I ask your prayers because prayers really do make a difference. Blessings.
