What is YOCO
The Youth Council (YOCO) was formed as a way to offer youth a greater voice and participation in the planning and execution of their own ministry. To draw from the energy and talent of our young people and provide leadership opportunities and training during the high school experience as it applies to youth ministry and community building. Youth apply to be on YOCO and serve for one full year.
What is the Mission of YOCO
The youth in this inaugural year camp up with the following mission statement:
YOCO is helping the Episcopal Church in Colorado understand that faith is coming into a new light. Church should be a place that is open, accepting, and welcoming, where people can learn and grow. By helping the youth of Colorado know the love of God, we can serve each other, the greater church, and the world.
Who are the Youth Currently on YOCO
Who Oversees YOCO
YOCO is sponsored and run through the combined efforts of the Office of the Bishop, Yes CO, and Cathedral Ridge. This allows the youth to have a say in all three areas of major youth formation- diocesan retreats, youth missions, and summer camp.
How Do You Get to Be On YOCO
YOCO is open to high school youth in 9-12 grade. They must be active in their youth group or parish ministers if no YG is available. They are students who are outgoing, excited, and willing to share their energy and ideas with the council and the youth of the diocese.
Applications open in the summer. Students selected will serve for the following school year and summer. Applications will be posted here when opened.ย
