Greetings, beloved in Christ. I hope that you are well on this day. A little over a week ago, I took my first hike of 2025. It was a short hike, less than two miles, because I am really out of shape. My husband and I left my visitation at Grace Church in Georgetown, and we drove up towards Guanella Pass, and we took time to hike. The weather did what the weather often does in Colorado. We started our hike in the low sixties, and by the time we reached the end of the first half of our hike at some elevation, we had snow showers falling on our heads.

It was a beautiful time. My husband and I were graced to see marmot and pika. We even saw a couple of mountain goats, which always thrills me. And all along the hike as we hiked through snow fields, as I huffed and puffed my way along, I glorified in the beauty of God’s creation. I glorified God for the wonders of a blue sky of clouds that bought snow. I glorified in the signs of spring springing up even through the snow. I glorified in the ways that being outdoors feeds my soul.

One of the gifts of living in Colorado is that we have so much of God’s bounty of creation to take in. There are so many places that we can get out of the city and be surrounded by the silence and the beauty of creation to see ourselves as not only part of that creation, but caregivers and stewards of it.

After my hike, I was a little sore, but I resolved to myself that I am going to get out more. Whether it’s for an amble around the block or a hopefully longer hike in the future, I am going to take every opportunity to give thanks for the beautiful place in which I live. To bear witness to and be a part of the glories of God’s creation. And, I hope that you will find the opportunity to do the same. We, here in Colorado, are blessed to live in a beautiful place. I give thanks to God for it, and I hope that you will let it feed your soul as it feeds mine. Blessings.
