Policy Priorities 2018 Legislative Session

For the 2018 legislative session in the state of Colorado, the Office of Advocacy and Social Justice has identified and outlined the following policy priorities. Much like the Episcopal Church’s Office of Government Relations, the Office of Advocacy and Social Justice only advocates and lobbies for policies with a direct correlation to policy passed by the General Convention of the Episcopal Church (Gen. Con.) or the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church (Executive Council).

I. Economic Justice

-Drivers License Reform (Gen. Con. ’00) (In partnership with Together Colorado)

-Affordable Housing in Population Centers (Gen. Con. ‘09)

-Support the reinvesting of tax revenue into human and social services (Executive Council, 6/01) (In partnership with Lutheran Advocacy Ministry-Colorado)

II. Criminal Justice Reform

-Repeal and/or revise the Habitual Offender Statute (Gen. Con. ‘03)

-Repeal the Death Penalty (Gen. Con. ‘00)

-Promoting opportunities for those exiting the criminal justice system to successfully reintegrate (Gen. Con. ‘94) (In partnership with Lutheran Advocacy Ministry-Colorado)

III. Environmental Protection and Creation Care

-Support ongoing efforts to implement and safeguard the Clean Power Plan in Colorado (Gen. Con. ’15) (In partnership with Lutheran Advocacy Ministry-Colorado)
