Formation for the Diaconate

Admission to Postulancy for the Diaconate represents the Diocese’s affirmation of a call. Therefore, the stages of Postulancy and Candidacy are not primarily focused on discernment of a call, but on responding to that call. The Diocese of Colorado works with Postulants and Candidates to ensure that they are well-prepared and equipped for their ministry and are confident in their call.

Formation for the Diaconate falls under two main categories: academic and practical. The academic work is self-paced study in four areas: scripture, tradition, theology, and the diaconate. Practical training occurs at both your home congregation and another church and includes field work, liturgical practicum, and homiletics. The requirements are described here.
