The Fully Engaged Parish: A Conversation with Mike Mather will focus on how to find abundance in unexpected places and fully engage both church members and those in the surrounding community as partners in ministry. The Rev. Mather has 30+ years of experience in urban ministry and community development. Please consider joining us for this engaging conversation. A light dinner will be served.

This event is the start of the diocese’s work in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), which will involve conducting ABCD workshops with faith communities across the state.

ABCD is a community development model that focuses on the assets of a community rather than its needs. By recognizing and empowering each and every member of the community, we have the ability to remove the roles of “service provider” and “service receiver.” ABCD utilizes community organizing, asset mapping, and a strengths-based approach to create holistic and lasting growth for communities. This model has been used with great success by Fr. Greg Boyle (Homeboy Industries) and Rev. Mike Mather (Broadway UMC). To learn more, visit the ABCD institute’s website here.

If you would like to set up an ABCD workshop for your faith community, contact Anthony Suggs, the diocesan Advocacy & Social Justice Coordinator, at Advocacy@EpiscopalColorado.org.
