Advent Retreat: Preparing the Way

Advent is a sacred season of preparation for Christians, a time of expectant waiting in preparation for the celebration of the Feast of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. John the Baptist, a voice crying in the wilderness, called the people to return to God in faithfulness, to be ready to receive the gift of God in Jesus. This year’s Advent Retreat invites you to a time of prayerful reflection at beautiful Cathedral Ridge, where together we will listen for God’s call to each of us to renew our faith and recommit our lives as we prepare for the Feast of Christmas.

What is this year’s theme?

Preparing the Way. Engaging in a variety of spiritual practices, including Lectio  Divina (Holy Reading of scripture), journaling, group reflection and sharing, and time for contemplation and rest, we will listen for God’s call to us individually and communally this Advent season.

What is the schedule?

Check-in begins at 2 pm Thursday and participants will first gather at 5 pm for social time before dinner. We will hold our first session after dinner, followed by Compline. Friday and Saturday will be a rhythm of shared meals; morning, noonday, and evening prayer; group sessions; and afternoons free for personal reflection, prayer, gathering in small groups, or exploring the grounds of Cathedral Ridge. We will close Saturday with the Eucharist and depart after sharing lunch.

Group sessions:

  • Living in Wilderness
  • Preparing the Way
  • Listening for God
  • Celebrating the Gift

Who is leading the retreat?

The Rev. Greg Foraker from St. Luke’s, Fort Collins, will lead this year’s retreat. Greg was called to join in ministry at St. Luke’s in November 2015, serving as associate rector for Leadership Development and Vocational Discovery. He comes from the Diocese of Arizona where he served at St. Philip’s in the Hills in Tucson. Greg is a Colorado native and since returning has enjoyed reconnecting with family and friends and in his free time enjoys yoga and travel, especially exploring the spectacular high country of our state.

What is included in the price?

The cost of the retreat includes two nights’ stay in a single room at Lupine Lodge, and all meals and retreat materials. Discounted pricing is available for guests wishing to book a double room.
