Advent is a sacred season of preparation for Christians, a time of expectant waiting in preparation for the celebration of the Feast of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. John the Baptist, a voice crying in the wilderness, called the people to return to God in faithfulness, to be ready to receive the gift of God in Jesus. This year’s Advent Retreat invites you to a time of prayerful reflection at beautiful Cathedral Ridge, where together we will listen for God’s call to each of us to renew our faith and recommit our lives as we prepare for the Feast of Christmas.
What is this year’s theme?
Preparing the Way. Engaging in a variety of spiritual practices, including Lectio Divina (Holy Reading of scripture), journaling, group reflection and sharing, and time for contemplation and rest, we will listen for God’s call to us individually and communally this Advent season.
What is the schedule?
Check-in begins at 2 pm Thursday and participants will first gather at 5 pm for social time before dinner. We will hold our first session after dinner, followed by Compline. Friday and Saturday will be a rhythm of shared meals; morning, noonday, and evening prayer; group sessions; and afternoons free for personal reflection, prayer, gathering in small groups, or exploring the grounds of Cathedral Ridge. We will close Saturday with the Eucharist and depart after sharing lunch.
